Many promoters of open access see it as a means to do better what would be an essentially unchanged scientific or technical research. The talk will highlight how open access also changes the nature of scientific publications and even of scientific work. It will describe signs of change in how scientific papers are written, who reads them and the impact on the organization of scientific communities. It will position open access in the more general context of science commons, and review the debates on open access priorities in this context.
